What is Building Information Modelling (BIM)?

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a planning method for the building industry, which is used to display technical and functional features in a building project in a virtual 3D model. Before starting the project, all relevant datas are brought together and create a digital twin! During the construction phase, all interested parties have access to this digital twin and thus to the current building plan.

BIM is an optimization process that aims to provide faster and more cost-effective project management. Can be used for projects of any size. In many countries, the obligation to work with BIM in public tenders has been implemented for architects and planners.

Standardization rises with BIM

The United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and Norway all use BIM for official government-funded construction projects.

According to EU guidelines, BIM has been compulsoried with regards to official government-funded construction projects in the EU from 2016.
